‘The only thing standing between me and university was the financial barrier, something that students should never face.’
Meet Yazan…
Originally from Jordan but moving around the Middle East in his childhood, Yazan came to the United States with the help of AMIDEAST.
Yazan studied a joint degree in Mechanical Engineering and Finance at MIT. He is impressively committed to social entrepreneurship and organizational development. Yazan cofounded a social initiative aimed at educating refugees along with friends from Harvard and MIT under the slogan ‘Educate2Empower.’ The initiative began in 2016 with students from Harvard, MIT and BU driven by their collective belief in their ‘obligation to help’ through empowering the underprivileged. Their intention is now to expand and launch in other countries.
Alongside this, Yazan acts as the Co-Chair of the MIT Undergraduate Association (UA) Alumni Affairs committee, treasurer of the Arab Student Organization and treasurer of Pal@MIT. Previously Yazan was a member of the UA Committee on the Community and Campus Planning Committee which focussed on empowering and developing the MIT community.
Yazan is currently in his junior year, due to finish at MIT in 2020. Yazan is interested in consulting and has already received numerous offers for internships. Yazan wants to reach the point where he can enable others to achieve the same successes as him.
Yazan aims to continue pursuing his entrepreneurial passions and exploring different industries and areas through consulting. His main aim is to give back to his community as best he can.
