Meet Omar…
Omar was born and raised in Jordan and holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Al-Balqa’ Applied University in Jordan.
Omar received First Class Honors and a GPA of (3.8). With this rank and GPA, Omar received a job offer from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan shortly after graduation.
Omar worked as an assistant engineer in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Directorate-Studies Section at the Ministry. As an engineer in the Studies Section, Omar participates in formulating energy policies and legislations, preparing energy efficiency national action plans and conducting renewable energy and energy efficiency related studies.
The Energy Sector is a vital driver for the economic development of any country. Jordan is a net energy-importing country as it imports approximately 90% of its energy needs. This percentage means that Jordan is facing supply and cost risks. Also, given that the instability in the middle east region, the energy sector in Jordan is facing real challenges.
As a professional in the energy sector, Omar aspires to have a leadership role in improving Jordan’s energy security by promoting more sustainable energy practices. Thus, Omar has decided to pursue his studies and apply for a relevant master’s degree.
Omar has chosen to study “MSc Sustainable Energy Futures” at Imperial College London. This degree program provides its students with a comprehensive background in sustainable energy systems and their economic-environmental significance. Moreover, Omar will learn how to analyze complex energy systems problems and make recommendations for solving them.
Upon completing his master's, Omar is planning to return to Jordan, where he will have the opportunity to promote sustainable energy practices aligned with Jordan's sustainable development aspirations through applying the knowledge and the skills gained in his degree.
