“My choice of major was heavily impacted by my willingness to contribute to the future world through technology and my continuous strive towards achieving.”

Meet Josee…

Josee was born in Lebanon and grew up in a village in the Kesserwan area.

She studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in Lebanon, and graduated first on her cohort with High Distinction in June 2022. She had a full scholarship throughout her undergraduate studies, and received the Beirut International Awards Festival BIAF 2019 Award for Outstanding Academic Performance. For her final-year project, she worked on designing the an active prosthesis for transtibial amputees.

Recently, she completed her internship with the UNDP Regional Hub for Arab States, through which she was supporting the Nature, Climate and Energy team by doing research on SDG7 progress and emerging energy technologies, and giving a hand in COP27 preparation.

Josee is working towards the MPhil in Engineering predominantly research course at the University of Cambridge, in the Cambridge Graphene Centre – Electrical Engineering Division. Her research focuses on developing air quality monitoring devices to assess personal exposure to air pollution.

Her choice of major was heavily impacted by her willingness to contribute to the future world through technology and her continuous strive towards achieving. Getting more knowledge into Electrical and Electronics Engineering and tech has become her passion. Josee wants to work on smart sensor technologies and systems that increase the humans’ knowledge of the physical world, and improve their interaction with it through informed, data-driven decisions.

On the extracurricular level, entrepreneurship inspires her. She founded a startup project called Aquatricity, aiming to help people optimize their water and energy consumption through smart metering and awareness raising. She is a UNDP Youth Leadership Programme YLP6 alumna and holder of the AUF Student-Entrepreneur status. She was also an innovation exhibitor in multinational events, such as the MIT Arab Conference 2020 and Step Anywhere 2021.

Her Cambridge dream has now become a reality. Looking to the future, gaining hands-on experience through fieldwork in the industry, and pursuing a PhD while engaging in research activities are both on her agenda, so she is looking forward to see what the next life chapter has for her.
