Our Virtual Open House

In October 2021, we hosted our first Virtual Open House event of the year. We were delighted to welcome our scholars and to introduce them to the Bseisu Foundation. New and existing scholars, as well as alumni joined us from across the UK as well as from Malaysia, the US and the Middle East.

The inevitable rise of virtual meetings and events through video conferencing platforms has allowed our community of scholars to flourish. We relished the opportunity to bring such an international group together in one “room”. Scholars joined us at various points of their day, during breakfast, lunch and late at night in Malaysia, and the power of Zoom had never been so apparent. We look forward to welcoming some of our scholars with an in-person event, but in the meantime, we were so pleased to be able to hold an inclusive and global meeting for such an international group.

The event was a great way for us to put faces to names. Each of our scholars introduced themselves and it was really interesting to learn about their fields of study as well as what they like to do during their spare time.

Scholars were also able to grow their networks and to connect with each other through the shared experience of being Bseisu scholars and through studying abroad. We even discovered that two of our scholars, one now studying in the US, and the other in the UK studied the same course at AUB in Lebanon. Whilst our community has internationalism at its core, it’s still a very small world!

A few of our graduated alumni scholars also joined the event and shared updates on their lives since gaining the Bseisu Scholarship. The Virtual Open House provided an excellent opportunity to catch up with our past scholars and it was really eye-opening to hear about some of the journeys that our students take following such transformative experiences with higher education.

We thank all our scholars, both current and alumni, for joining our Virtual Open House and we really look forward to holding the next event soon.
