A Letter to our Future Scholars

Dear Scholars,

Firstly, congratulations! We are so pleased to have you join the Bseisu Foundation community. You have worked so hard to get here and we cannot wait to watch you go from strength to strength over the course of your new and exciting journey.

Our hope is that the opportunities that are unlocked through studying abroad are truly transformational. We hope that the experiences afforded to you over the course of your studies will significantly impact you and your communities. We will endeavour to support you in every way possible and we seek to encourage your maximum growth and success.

Despite being incredibly exciting, moving to a new country and adapting to a new environment can be daunting. However, it is important to remember that it is completely normal to have questions and to ask them. While embarking on a new chapter can be overwhelming and intimidating, we are always here to help and guide you along the way, through the entire process from start to finish, and beyond.

If there is one piece of advice we can give you, it is this: remember that you are not alone. There are many scholars just like you, who have come before you and will continue to come after you. Do not lose sight of your goals and experience every moment to its fullest. There will be a host of people, as well as us that will offer you support throughout this period. Remember to make the most of these resources.

Our final thoughts: We believe in your generation of scholars and in the power of education. We believe in your goals and your drive, determination and dedication. We are so excited to see where the next few years take you, and all the ways in which you will go on to transform your life and the lives of the people around you.  We hope you have a fantastic year!

All the best,

The Bseisu Foundation

To accompany this letter, we asked Nesreen, a recent Bseisu graduate if there was anything she would have liked to know before, during and after moving to London. this is what she said:

Nesreen is from Jordan originally and has a background in Radiologic Technology and Applied Medical Sciences. During 2020-2021, Nesreen has been attending Imperial College London for a Master’s in Medical Ultrasound. Nesreen moved to London in the middle of the pandemic but has thrived socially and academically.

"It took me almost one full year applying for universities in the UK with my chosen course of study. It was a bit tricky because I tried my best to find an area of study that is somehow relevant to my academic background [my bachelor’s degree], as subspecialties in Medical Imaging are quite rare in the UK. So, I would say, it is best to be prepared in advanced and to search for universities with relevant MSc courses.

The moving experience was such an exhilarating experience for me, especially moving to London and getting to see the various exciting parts of The Big Smoke City. I booked my accommodation with ease by using Imperial College London's search engine/postgraduates' accommodation and it went so smoothly. The agents helped so much with my booking. My place is only 5 minutes’ walk from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Walking in the Gardens early in the morning and running in Hyde Park after Iftar during Ramadan are absolutely one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had so far."

Nesreen’s advice:

1. Try to choose a varied selection of universities that you would like to attend and widen your options beforehand. Narrow down your area of interest for the course you would like to pursue; so you are able to focus on a specific subject which is associated with your bachelor’s studies rather than dispersing your energy on a larger scope of choices.

2. Try to manage your time and start looking for accommodation near your campus or study area.

3. Try to make use of the buses as they can get you to so many places rather than using the tube (London Underground). Compared to buses, the tube is slightly more expensive and often they almost take the same amount of time to reach your destination. The bus is much more entertaining (especially double-deckers) as you can see the beautiful shops and the dazzling boroughs of London with utmost pleasure.
