“The current situation in my region has become even more challenging due to the war and exceptional conditions my people are enduring. All of these experiences have motivated me to embark on a journey of self-education, solidifying my knowledge on a global scale to help both my society and the world.”

Meet Maram…

Maram was born and raised in the Gaza Strip and completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Palestine, majoring in Health Nutrition.

Currently, she is pursuing a Master's in Clinical Nutrition at the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Her driving force is her passion for helping people, especially the most vulnerable, in the field of nutrition and health. Maram has come to realise the pivotal role that nutrition plays in our lives and that dietary choices can either lead to better health or contribute to chronic diseases. She is motivated by the fact that nutrition also plays a core role in preventing and improving the quality of life for patients with various non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular issues, cancer, and kidney diseases.

Maram has a strong interest in global nutrition and food issues, such as food security, quality, and safety. Her graduate research project was conducted under this title. Drawing from her experiences as a trainee and as a volunteer dietitian in a programme aimed at preventing malnutrition among children and women, especially pregnant women in rural and impoverished regions of the Gaza Strip, Maram gained a deeper understanding of the challenges people face in real-life situations.

Maram is passionate about learning, reading, and participating in various courses, specifically in the medical field. She chose to study in Malaysia and UKM for various reasons, including the desire to build her character independently of her family's protection and care. Upon seeking advice from professors at the university, they recommended UKM because of its high quality education, research standards and undeniable reputation in the field. After completing her Master's, Maram plans to embark on a PhD, possibly joining international humanitarian institutions and establishing her own clinic to assist individuals suffering from nutrition and nutrition-related diseases. Maram’s ultimate goal is to be a trailblazer in her field and make a positive difference in people's lives.
