“Oxford’s ground-breaking energy research, and leading industrial and global collaborations will equip me with the skills necessary to carry out future research on sustainable energy and lead in the pursuit of a zero-carbon future.”

Meet Jana…

Jana was born in Lebanon and grew up in a small town in Mount Lebanon just outside of Beirut.

She is currently studying an MSc in Energy Systems at the University of Oxford. Jana graduated with high distinction from the American University of Beirut in 2018 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. For her final year project, which received the Dean’s Award for Creative Achievement, she focused on industrial sustainability and designed a novel bio-based butadiene production process. During her time as an undergraduate student, Jana worked hard to make the most out of her university experience, participating in academic research projects, working as a teaching assistant, and volunteering at several university events and competitions.

Following her enthusiasm for energy and sustainability, Jana took a job as a data and market research analyst at Energy Intelligence, an independent provider of news, analysis, and data into the energy industry. Through this eye-opening three-year work experience, she gained valuable insight about the industry and its dynamics, trends, stakeholders, substantial influence on global politics and markets, and vast technological prospects. Realizing that ensuring energy access, security, and sustainability can only be met through continuous innovation and advancement across the energy value chain, Jana decided to pursue her postgraduate studies on the energy topic.

What attracted Jana to the Energy Systems program at the University of Oxford is its holistic and interdisciplinary structure that covers the topics of energy resources, systems and services. Moreover, Oxford’s prominent education, ground-breaking energy research, and leading industrial and global collaborations will equip her with the academic and research skills necessary to carry out future research on sustainable energy and lead in the pursuit of a zero-carbon future.
