“I chose to study Anthropology because I am very interested in the human conduct and how it has developed over time and continues to develop.”

Meet Hanan…

Hanan was born in Saida, Lebanon but grew up in Shatila camp in Beirut. She still resides in the camp and has done for almost 18 years now.

Hanan speaks and writes eloquently, with a maturity that comes from wide life experience. Hanan is currently starting her studies at the University of Bristol in the International Foundation Programme in order to pursue a bachelors degree in Anthropology. Hanan chose Anthropology because she is very interested in the human conduct and how it has developed over time and continues to develop. She is also highly interested in ethnography and engaging in the life of the studied subject in order to provide a more accurate preview, which Anthropology provides.

In Hanan’s free time she enjoys making self-portraits and has done so for about two years after she took photography classes. Her self-portraits are inspired by personal or social topics and Hanan’s photos have been exhibited in the Beirut Image Festival in its very first year. Impressively, Hanan was the youngest exhibitor at the festival.

Hanan chose to study in the UK because it is the founder country of Anthropology. She was especially impressed by Bristol, its reputation and the prospects it provides, and is excited to live in Bristol, which she describes as a beautiful and calm city to match her own tendencies and lifestyle. Hanan is still unsure of her future plans but hopes to be working in her field of study when she finishes university. She also plans to focus on art and specifically photography.
