“The unprecedented rise in global temperatures has shown that climate change is now more dangerous than ever. With the ongoing energy crisis, countries which have fossil fuels exploit the ones who don’t. Something clearly needs to change for the sake of our and our children’s future. That’s why I wanted to study a Masters’ in Sustainable Energy Futures.”

Meet Amr…

Amr was born in Amman, Jordan and is originally from Al-Salt, a city North West of the Capital in Jordan. Amr’s mother is from Jerusalem, born to his refugee grandparents.

Having lived in Jordan for his whole life before moving to Egypt in 2009 for a couple of years, Amr returned to Jordan to complete his IB Diploma.

Amr was able to secure a scholarship at Cardiff University and spent 3 years there. In his final year, Amr was elected as Vice President Welfare and Campaigns to represent over 32,000 students. He was the first Jordanian to secure the position and spent another year in Cardiff advocating for students’ issues.

Amr chose to study at Imperial College because it boasted a very unique programme, which he had not found anywhere else. According to Amr, it’s delivery by the Energy futures Lab and it being taught by very high-profile professors were factors that drew him to the course at Imperial. Amr felt that this programme would open many doors for his future.

In his free time, Amr enjoys acting and musical theatre and was the lead in Oliver. Amr is also a self-described hiking enthusiast and has explored national parks and historical sites in Wales, Jordan and Egypt. In addition, Amr also holds a junior diving license.

Amr also has an interest in Theoretical Physics and has published papers and articles in the past.

Amr is still unsure about what to do after university, but he thinks he might want to get into an Energy consultancy. In the long term, his dream is to start his own global renewable energy company.
