“During my undergraduate degree, I completed an elective medical course in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford. This made me aware of the wonderful possibilities for development and innovation in cardiovascular medicine beyond the extreme limitations in the Gaza Strip.  I am particularly keen to have a thorough understanding of quality improvement principles as this will enable me to address the shortcomings I have seen in the Palestinian healthcare system.”

Meet Ahmed…

Ahmed is a Palestinian born and raised in Gaza.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in medicine from the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG). During his undergraduate degree, Ahmed completed an elective medical course in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford. This made him aware of the wonderful possibilities for development and innovation in cardiovascular medicine beyond the extreme limitations in the Gaza Strip.

After completing his studies, Ahmed started his career as a teaching and research fellow at the IUG. Working in the academic field opened his eyes to the importance of maintaining continuously evolving cardiovascular research to deliver safe and effective healthcare services based on the best available evidence.

Ahmed’s experiences in Gaza and Oxford led him to appreciate the academic disciplines underpinning clinical practice and encouraged him to pursue a master's degree in cardiovascular healthcare.

Ahmed is currently pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Healthcare at Imperial College London. His research focuses on the quality, safety and effectiveness of clinical practice in cardiovascular and respiratory medicine. He is particularly keen to have a thorough understanding of quality improvement principles as this will enable him to address the shortcomings he has seen in the Palestinian healthcare system.
